| As Group Chairman and Managing Director of SUTL Group of Companies, Tay oversees a business with a turnover in excess of S$300 million and assets of S$350 million. Apart from a love of fast cars and motorbikes, Tay has long had a strong affinity for the sea. A boating enthusiast and avid scuba diver, Tay is also a member of Raffles Marina and the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club.
Now, the Group is building and will operate the One°15 Marina Club at Sentosa Cove. Designed to house mega yachts in sheltered waters, the marina is set to be Asiaís finest yachting club. Itís certainly Tayís most ambitious project to date, and a quantum leap from the trading business established by his father.
"I was playing golf on Sentosa when I heard about Sentosa Coveís waterfront homes. I thought that was a fantastic idea, says Tay. "I like the idea of marinas bordered by beautiful homes. I wanted to build a business I was interested and passionate about," he explains.
SUTL started in the trading and distribution of liquor, tobacco, beverages and electronics primarily in Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam. Rather than FMCGs, the younger Tay soon found his niche marketing and developing lifestyle products.
