Actress Sienna Miller has done her bit to sprinkle a little stardust on the lives of cancer sufferers by helping to raise money for breast cancer research, together with Claudia Schiffer in a campaign begun by designer Ralph Lauren. And last year, linking up with Sting, Vanisha Bhatia, the daughter of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, and more than two dozen signatories, she also leaned on Nobu (part owned by Robert De Niro), urging Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa to take bluefin tuna off the menu last year.

She had made headlines for other reasons, too. When she was just a twentysomething, she became known as Jude Law’s squeeze. Besides, she had her moments with paparazzi, caught topless on a boat with millionaire Balthazar Getty. Troubled by many other intrusions, she threw the book at them. News Group Newspapers (publisher of UK’s Sun and the News of the World) and Big Pictures UK paid heavy damages a couple of year ago.

She is now the face of the Piaget Possession collection, highlighting the Possession Celebration ring and a diamond-studded bracelet.

Vicente Minnelli, Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland. That great musical Gigi connects us to Vicente. Singing, dancing Sally Bowles in Bob Fosse’s musical Cabaret, links us to Liza. Judy Garland, who died in 1969 at age 47, connects both the aforementioned people. The star of movies including Vicente Minnelli’s Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), The Harvey Girls (1946), Easter Parade (1948) and The Wizard of Oz (1939) and George Cukor’s Star is Born (1954), had another passion – shoes. Salvatore Ferragamo shoes.

The women of Hong Kong got a glimpse of a model that Ferragamo crafted for the MGM star. Created between 1930 and 1940, the sandal (seen here) stands out for its very Mexican colours, which is no accident. Ferragamo picked up Mexican colours and his shoes are often clad in bold, vibrant hues.

The upper of the sandal created for Garland was made with padded gold kid skin bands, and the platform sole and heel had layers of cork lined with multi-hued suede.

An exhibition at the Bank of China tower, a collaboration between the bank and Ferragamo, showcased a selection of icons and inventions. This comes a couple of years after the label marked Ferragamo’s 80th birthday in Shanghai, where events included an exhibition at the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art in May 2008.
