In the 60th year of the Berlinale, celebrated at the Berlinale Palast where the programme was unusually diverse, and at the Bafta awards where arthouse films were embraced by the jurors, movie royalty, the pretenders and the first-timers gathered for the premieres and the awards ceremonies in their finery. This is neither Cannes nor the Oscars, but the actresses glided across the red carpet and posed in sexy outfits. Some selected Hollywood glamour, while others simply settled for classic evening wear, and even knee-length numbers. Turkish film Honey took the Golden Bear for best film at the Berlin Film Festival. In London, The Hurt Locker won best film.

Here, in a near-theatrical moment, Carey Mulligan, who won best actress for An Education (a film based on journalist’s memoir), cuts a solitary figure, erect like a statuette, as she soaks up the adoration in Berlin, Germany. Other stars, too, took their turn at the spotlight and some are featured here in our pages.

Leading watchmakers unveiled more new masterpieces from their collections of timepieces at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. There were two new contemporary brands as well, in this, the 20th edition of the event. The PEAK highlights noteworthy watches from the salon.

A. Lange & Söhne
In 1845, Ferdinand A. Lange established his own watch manufactory in the Müglitz valley. This year marks 165 years for A. Lange and Sohne and the company pays homage to F.A. Lange Collection with the launch of Tourbograph “Pour le Mérite”, the Lange 1 Tourbillon “Homage to F. A. Lange” and the 1815 Moonphase “Homage to F. A. Lange”. All these watches share a new gold alloy as the hallmark.

Audemars Piguet
Three versions of Royal Oak Offshore Grand Prix by Audemars Piguet have been launched at SIHH. Forged carbon became the theme in these variations as they feature a rose gold and forged carbon, a platinum and forged carbon and an all forged carbon model respectively, while powered by the 3126 or 3840 self-winding movement. The inscription Royal Oak Offshore Grand Prix – Limited Edition is engraved on the 44x 15.65 millimetre caseback. They come with a black calfskin and alcantara strap, hand-sewn with alcantara inserts and edges, plus a pin buckle in either bead blasted titanium, 18-k gold or 950 platinum, depending on preference.

Seductive colours and suggestive names that are intended to bring pleasure to women characterise a new collection of Wellendorff jewellery that is as flattering as it is indulgent.

The shades are warm and inviting; the feel, solid and secure. Georg Wellendorff has just unveiled a collection of golden edibles (well, not exactly edible, but they might as well be!) to The PEAK, and it is obvious, in the way he speaks while showing off his treasured jewels, that he is proud.

The fourth generation head of the family jewellery line, recently in town with his wife, Claudia, for the Asia debut of the Chocolate Collection, says the line has been a success since its launch last year.

Pun permitted, the rings, bangles, bracelets, earrings and necklace that make up the collection do look good enough to eat. And the names do not help either: caramels, truffles and sugarkisses almost automatically trigger a mouthwatering mechanism in most women. Or, if not, perhaps mocha, champagne or espresso will do the trick.
