EVENT: FINE WINES, ASIAN DELIGHTS
VENUE: INTERCONTINENTAL GRAND STANFORD HONG
WINE PARTNER: CORNERSTONE
VENUE AND F&B PARTNER: INTERCONTINENTAL GRAND STANFORD HONG KONG

At an evening designed for wine buffs and Asian food lovers, 50 special guests gathered at the end of last month to sample seven different fine wines selected by CornerStone and paired with dim sum and canapés presented by Chef Leung Fai-hung, the International Master Chef for Chinese Cuisine and Head Chef of Hoi King Heen.

The reds, whites, and dessert wines were introduced by CornerStone Director Alan Chiu, who also shared some ideas about wine tasting techniques. In a relaxing environment where people swapped tales, what was in the glass went down smoothly, as was what was on the menu, a selection that included shrimp dumplings, spring rolls with scallop and celery, pan-fried glutinous rice dumplings filled with Chinese chives peanut and pork, pork dumplings with crab roe, as well as a vegetarian option – mushroom and bamboo pith dumplings.

The fun was discovering the complexity of flavours of the Chinese dim sum and the refreshing, complementary nature of the wines such as Marlborough sauvignon blanc and Cathedral cellar Chardonnay, J. Rival Cuvee Prestige 2007, Sally’s Hill Pinot Noir 2008, Convento Oreja Roble 2007, and Bersano Moscato d’asti 2008.

Timeless Jewels

Chanel unveiled an exquisite collection of high jewellery named 18 Vendôme, inspired by the Place Vendôme. The exhibit, seen at 26 Harbour Road, was built with 150,000 pieces of identical octagonal acrylic.

Tribute To Josephine

Jeweller Chaumet marked its 230th anniversary with a new high jewellery collection, Joséphine. A gala dinner was held at Four Seasons Hotel. Joséphine was the celebrated customer of Chaumet founder Marie-Etienne Nitot, who created jewels for her coronation. Chaumet also designed gifts from the Emperor to Joséphine.
