What's In A Name?
An old Bali favourite gets a new name and management.
The Ayana Resort on Bali’s “Bukit” has now been successfully operating for six months but it is still worth mentioning that it used to be the Ritz Carlton.
The name, Ayana, comes from the Sanskrit language and means a “place of refuge”. Ayana offers complete sanctuary and immersion in Bali’s culture while at the same time breaking new ground in luxurious accommodation. It has a total of 368 guestrooms and can cater for honeymooners, families and groups.
The resort itself sits on 77 ha of cliff-top land approximately 30m above the Indian Ocean, affording some majestic views of many parts of Bali, including the sacred Mount Agung. Ayana is without doubt unique. Other resorts might try to match the service and luxury but they cannot possibly match the expansiveness.
Having reached Ayana, one has the feeling that it is some remote and distant land but, in fact, it is just a 15-minute drive from Bali’s airport.
Regular guests of the original Ritz Carlton Bali have nothing to worry about as Ayana Resort and Spa will go from strength to strength. The final word goes to Charles de Foucault who said: “There are more advancements to come as Ayana reshapes traditional concepts of a luxury resort. Watch this space!”
