Two centuries of achievement

Global banking giant Citibank celebrates its 200th anniversary this year, and its Indonesian office commemorated the event on Oct 30 with a reception at Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta. Some 400 guests, the city’s business notables among them, made an appearance while violinist Idris Sardi, among others, provided the entertainment.


A slice of Croatian culture

The Embassy of Croatia hosted a very special performance by awardwinning singers Klapa Tragos at the Usmar Ismail Hall in South Jakarta on Nov 14. The nine-member, all-male choral group enthralled with more than a dozen traditional and modern songs and later impressed with a rendition of popular Indonesian song Selendang Sutra alongside local singer-songwriter Moza Simanjuntak.


Out of Papua

The US ambassador to Indonesia Scot Marciel and the American Club hosted a reception on Nov 6 to showcase Kamoro art, which is produced by Papuan carvers and artists. Representatives from local diplomatic and social circles were given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the art forms and by the end of the evening, more than 80 pieces were sold for a total of Rp57.7 million, with all funds being channelled directly back to the artists.
